SEAMTN Tech Demo 2/14/22

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville Machine Tool Research Center (MTRC) hosted a SEAMTN Tech Demo on 2/14/22 to showcase Blue Photon work holding technology. Gary McNealy, JMI CNC & Automation, demonstrated the UV-based work holding approach to 18 SEAMTN colleagues, including a group from Beehive3D.

The event concluded by attaching an aluminum plate to the Blue Photon fixture using the UV light-cured polymer. The video shows a face milling operation on a friction stir additive manufacturing feature produced using the MELD Manufacturing L3 machine located in the MTRC. This was a milestone because it represented the first machining operation on a friction stir additive part that was printed in the MTRC. Many more to come!
