Bruce LaMatinna

Bruce LaMattina is the Director of Federal & Industry Partnership for the University of Tennessee Space Institute and a research professor in the Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering department (MABE) in the Tickle College of Engineering.

Bruce has over 25 years of experience that spans academia, corporate R&D, and government. Prior to joining UT, he led the Charlotte Research Institute (CRI) at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte (UNCC).  He also served as the director of federal research relations at Rutgers University and as a program manager at the US Army Research Office (ARO).  He was a principle researcher at ABB’s U.S. R&D headquarters with additional industry experience at SAS and the Okonite Company. In dual roles, he served as a visiting professor at NC State University and an adjunct professor at Duke University.

Bruce received his PhD in mechanical engineering with minors in civil engineering and mathematics from North Carolina State University and has a master’s and bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Delaware.  He is grateful that a major portion of his graduate work was supported by a fellowship sponsored by the Army.
